I think I can speak for everyone here today. Missoula needs help! Every city needs help and every nation as well, but let me clarify! When I say Missoula needs help, or any place, I am not referring to the physical GPS coordinates. I am speaking about people. People need help! But I am not referring to the helping hand from a neighbor, a brother from the church, or assistance from a policeman either.
The first time we encounter the word “help” in Scripture is when God says He is going to give Adam a “help meet” (Genesis 2:20) KJV. We all know that Eve was that help meet. Helper in the Hebrew language is “Ezer.” In our culture, the word helper can almost carry the idea of someone who serves the other, like an inferior.
That is a regrettable concept, a concept that can be quickly extinguished when we see that God Himself is referred to as our “help” (Ezer). “Our soul waits for the Lord; He is our help (Ezer) and our shield” (Psa.33:20); “God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble” (Psa.46:1). And let me state the obvious…the Lord is no inferior!
Jesus said: “But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in My name, He will teach you all things, and bring to your remembrance all things that I said to you” (John 14:26). That’s what I’m talking about! That’s the kind of HELPER we need to do life God’s way!
Holy Spirit…we need your help!
