“Be Thankful”

And let the peace of God rule in your hearts, to which also you were called in one body; and be thankful” (Col. 3:15).

This last week we have endured 100 degree average weather in Fresno and today is topping out at 110! The ground here is even too hot for the lizards, hence the saying “leaping lizards, Batman” (just kidding).

There is no end to things we can grumble about. Some of our grumbling may come in minor doses: “It’s too hot,” or for you in Missoula this week, “too smoky.” Grumbling definitely crosses into the “red zone” when it includes the downgrading of people for any manner of differences. And I think we would all agree, it is really challenging being around people who tend toward the negative and judge everything or everyone. It surely messes with our peace and the peace of those around us.

Conversely, it is so pleasant to be around the cheerful and thankful. My Dad would always say…”No matter what lousy thing was happening, it could be worse, Mike.” Sometimes when he would say that I would think he was “nuts” because I didn’t like the way it was, and I certainly wouldn’t like worse.

In time it couldn’t be clearer; his resistance to being negative actually improved my outlook! Thankful people can change their environment…and the choice is ours.

Be thankful!
Pastor Mike
